We are on a mission to connect with like-minded individuals that align with our core principles to achieve mutual success. If it were not for the unique talents of each of our franchise owners, our organization would not be able to make an impact at the scale we desire. The best part of a franchise relationship is being able to leverage your strengths with the strengths of others in order to have faster breakthroughs and shared success. A fantastic example of this sort of partnership is with our Fort Bend, TX franchise owner, Vaishali Nileshwar.

With a career as an Occupational therapist spanning 25+years, Vaishali has a deep understanding of and a passion for enabling people to lead healthier and happier lives. Vaishali’s treatment philosophy as an   occupational therapist has always been   guided by the firm belief that recuperating   individuals have a better outlook on life and   heal faster when living in their home. During her career, Vaishali has strived to ensure that people under her care have returned to their home if they so desired, because every person deserves to live comfortably in the security of their own home.

Vaishali began her career at an inpatient rehabilitation facility where she worked closely with recovering patients, physicians, social workers, nurses, nursing assistants and therapists from other disciplines and with the families to ensure a safe return to their home. A search for better options for her patients is what led Vaishali to HomeWell to become a trusted provider of compassionate care. We recently sat down with Vaishali, to hear about this journey.

Vaishali Nileshwar; HomeWell of Fort Bend

HWCS: Tell us a bit about yourself and what you did prior to becoming a HomeWell Care Services Franchise Owner

VN: I am an occupational therapist by training. I was born and brought up in India, went to school there and came to the US after I graduated OT school. I have practiced OT in the Houston Metro Area for over 28 years. I started my career in in-patient rehab working with adults/seniors and during the latter part of my career, I moved into pediatrics.

I am also an empty nester with two wonderful grown children. My amazing husband of 28 years helps me a lot with the business; he does all the numbers part of the business and we joke that he is also our “IT guy”.

HWCS: How didyou first hear about HomeWell?

VN: In 2018 I reconnected with a former coworker of mine who owns a competitor’s franchise in North Houston and she told me all about the business. I had been looking to start my own business in a healthcare related field and this just seemed right.I went home after dinner that day and did some research on the internet. The next morning, I called HomeWell, Kristina answered the phone and the rest is history.

HWCS: Why did you choose HomeWell over some of the other franchise brands you researched?

VN: I really felt valued by the HomeWell team. They placed so much importance on my clinical experience and what I was going to bring to the table. They did not seem worried at all that I did not have much business experience. The team was warm and welcoming and felt like a little family instead of a huge corporation. After the executive team had approved my application, I remember clearly that the CEO was on vacation, but she took the time to speak with me while she was on vacation. And I thought to myself, “If the CEO is ready to speak with prospective franchisee while on vacation, when there is no guarantee that they will sign up, then I am certain that she and her team will stand by me every step of the way after I sign up.”

HWCS: What does a typical day look like for you as a new franchise owner?

VN: This is a great question! A “typical day” is always exactly opposite of what I have planned. You can never really “plan” a day; you have to go with the flow. Even if you plan for the day expect that your actual day will be completely different. Healthcare is an emotionally charged field and things happen unexpectedly. I am quite used to this because I have been in the medical field so long; I am trained to expect the unexpected.

HWCS: If you could tell your past self one thing you know now that you didn’t know then what would it be?

VN: Follow the HomeWell process! Do not deviate from what Michelle teaches you; it is a culmination of years of experience and market research. Don’t try to challenge it. Believe me, I tried to deviate from it because I am contrary like that and I like to challenge things. But the process really works; stay on the path.

HWCS: You’ve had a lot of success right out of the gate here with HomeWell, what has been the key to that success?

VN: I do believe that my clinical experience has helped me a lot. It has helped me connect with clients and families and also with the referral sources. I also had a lot of connections with physicians, social workers, therapists and nurses prior to coming on board with HomeWell which has taken me on the right path to form new connections in the field. I also want to take a moment to recognize my fantastic office manager Monica who has made it very easy for me to go out and do marketing and manage other aspects of the business. So, I think hiring the right person to manage the office is very important.

HWCS: Can you share a piece of advice for future franchise owners who’d like to see early success similar to yours?

VN: I would say that other than following the HomeWell process, just be yourself. Be genuine and your passion to help people will shine through. Connect with the people; talk about money as the last thing on the list. Making that connection helps people trust you. That goes for both clients and the referral sources.

HWCS: What is the competitive landscape like in your market? Do you feel like there is enough opportunity for you to continue to grow?

VN: It is definitely competitive. Not only are there big franchises, but also independently owned agencies. It feels like everyone decided to get into this business when I did. But I think there is enough business for everyone. And I have faith in the brand and the things that set us apart from others.

HWCS: What would you say is the biggest value that the HomeWell brand brings to your business?

VN: HomeWell’s brand programs are absolutely stellar. That is one of the things that attracted me to HomeWell. The HomeWell Cares initiatives are very important to me as a therapist who loves to teach. It really sets us apart from our competition. When I suggest doing these educational presentations for the communities to our referral sources, they often comment, “You do that? Nobody else offers it!”Knowing that the HomeWell Cares topics are constantly being developed is comforting to me because it gives me an edge over my competition.

HWCS: Do you feel like being a part of a franchise organization has helped you launch your business more smoothly? In what ways?

VN: Having been through the process of launching the business, I can say with complete confidence that doing it single-handedly would have been very difficult. I would have muddled my way through it, but the potential for mistakes would have been high. The HomeWell team has been amazing from day 1. Amy and Gina helped me so much during the licensing process and pre-opening phase. And now that we are open, I could not do it without Steve, Michelle and Katie. They are always there to help answer the silliest of my questions with patience. I really appreciate that.

HWCS: Tell us something about you that most people would never guess

VN: I am an incurable introvert.

HWCS: What’s the number one item on your life’s “bucket list”?

VN: I love to travel, it’s a crazy passion of mine. I want to visit 60 countries before my 60th birthday
