Now the owner of HomeWell Care Services in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Eli reflects on her time as a franchise owner, sharing what ultimately influenced her decision to join HomeWell and her experience in home care.
“Before I started this HomeWell with my husband, I worked in operations at a test preparation company and had been with them for 17 years. Then they had a big series of layoffs; so, I was left wondering, ‘Where am I going next?’”
“My husband suggested I should start a business. At that point, he had been in home care for 25 years, and so when I found HomeWell, I said, ‘You’re coming with me.’”
“One of the things that stood out about HomeWell was how well they cared for their people. It was very clear to us when we were doing our research early on that HomeWell had all the answers. When we said, ‘Do you have a process for this?’ They said, ‘Yes, we do. We have the step-by-step, the flyers and tools you need, and we will talk you through it.’ We also got to do some discovery calls with current owners, who were very welcoming and helpful. We knew we would have the support that we needed.”
“Having HomeWell behind you makes everything attainable. You don’t even know what questions to ask when you’re on your own. Many times, I said, ‘I’m banging my head against the wall here, and I don’t know what to do.’ That’s when I picked up the phone and called the corporate office or another HomeWell agency, so we got some best practices early on. They were very helpful in getting us up and going very quickly.”
“The hardest part of starting a business is the fear. You’re jumping off a cliff headfirst with no parachute. And we put our entire savings into it and all of our time. We left our other jobs. But, HomeWell kept telling us what to expect, and every time they were right. Never once did we think, ‘What have we done? Should we have done it?’ Every moment has been confirming.”
