In this Q&A, we sat down with Erin Sheffield, owner of HomeWell Care Services in Tampa, Florida. As a devoted mother with extensive experience in healthcare and customer service, Erin understands firsthand the crucial role of compassionate care in supporting families. Today, she leads her agency with a passion for building meaningful community connections and providing every client with the same quality of care she would want for her own loved ones.

Q: Tell us about your background and how you came to HomeWell.

Erin: My career has been rooted in healthcare, culture, and customer service, with decades devoted to enhancing the client experience while fostering a supportive and empowering environment for employees. I believe that genuine care is about building meaningful connections and providing unwavering support when it’s needed most.

I chose HomeWell because I wanted to step away from the corporate world, where I often felt six layers removed from the people I served. In this new chapter, I’m eager to directly impact the lives of our clients and their families, ensuring they receive the compassionate care they deserve.

Q: What was it about home care that stood out to you?

Erin: I deeply understand the value of home care across all stages of life. My parents are healthy today but fall within our target demographic, making the need for quality care very real to me. As I’ve watched the health of my friends’ parents begin to decline, I’ve recognized how quickly circumstances can change and wanted to ensure I’m prepared to support my parents as best as possible when the time comes.

Additionally, as a mother of a child with unique abilities, I think daily about his future. I consider the kind of care and support he might need when the support system he relies on today is no longer there.

Q: What skills, experiences, or personality traits do you bring that will help you succeed?

Erin: 1. Empathy and personal connection. My life experiences have given me a deep understanding of the importance of home care. As someone with aging parents and a child with unique abilities, I appreciate the significance of compassionate, reliable care and the peace of mind it brings to families. I am the daughter of a retired Air Force Colonel. It’s no surprise that my dad taught me a commitment to duty, but moving around a lot when I was young also taught me the importance of connecting with people and building lasting relationships.

2. Decades of professional experience. My career has been centered around enhancing client experiences and building supportive workplace cultures. I’ve spent years leading teams, streamlining operations, and prioritizing exceptional customer service—skills that directly translate to managing and growing a home care business.

3. Hands-on leadership. After years in the corporate world, I transitioned to HomeWell to be closer to the people I serve. This decision reflects my hands-on approach to leadership and my commitment to ensuring that every client and caregiver feels valued and supported.

4. Adaptability and problem-solving. Managing both personal and professional challenges has taught me resilience and the ability to think on my feet—skills critical for navigating the complexities of running a home care agency.

5. Passion for purpose. I’m driven by a genuine desire to make a difference in people’s lives, creating meaningful connections, and fostering a culture of care that extends from my team to our clients and their families. Ultimately, I want to leave everyone I meet better than when I found them.
