HomeWell Owner Spotlight: Connie Leeper

In this Q&A, we connected with Connie Leeper, owner of HomeWell Care Services in Greenville, South Carolina. While Connie’s professional background is in software engineering, she has an innate passion for caregiving and community service. She spends much of her time serving in church leadership and leading educational programs in her community. Now, as the owner of a HomeWell Care Services agency, she blends her technical expertise and personal experiences to guide her care team in delivering compassionate and dependable support to families throughout the Greenville area.

Q: Tell us about your background and what led you to HomeWell.

Connie: I began my career as a software engineer after earning my B.S. in Computer Science. Like many engineers, I loved problem-solving and tackling complex challenges, but I soon discovered my true passion—helping people. I found ways to leverage my technical skills to make others’ work easier and more efficient.

After a few years in this capacity, I shifted my focus to raising my family. During this time, I served in leadership roles within my congregation, organized youth activities, led math and science education programs, and volunteered across a wide range of service opportunities. These experiences deepened my commitment to supporting others and strengthening my community.

As my children neared adulthood, I returned to university to earn my MBA. Armed with new business knowledge, I re-entered the professional world with renewed energy and a desire to create impact. I enjoyed working with clients to improve their business operations, but I realized I wanted to make an even more personal difference in people’s lives.

That desire led me to HomeWell. From the very first conversations, I was impressed by the compassion and care that radiated from the team. I immediately recognized an opportunity to serve my community in a meaningful way and to align my passion for helping others with a mission-driven organization.

Q: What was it about home care that stood out to you? Did you have a personal experience that drew you to this industry?

Connie: Home care stood out to me because it meets such a profound need. There truly is no place like home, and being able to help individuals remain where they are most comfortable while receiving the support they need is a tremendous gift. It’s what I want for everyone whenever possible.

For me, this is also personal. My mom watched her loved ones leave their homes when they could no longer care for themselves, and she made us promise that wouldn’t happen to her. She lived with my family for over eight years, and we supported her as her health declined. While we were grateful to care for her, we also recognized how valuable a resource like HomeWell would have been during that time.

As our population ages, I believe people deserve the option to remain at home with dignity and compassion. I want to be part of making that possible.

Q: What skills, experiences or personality traits do you bring that will help you succeed as a HomeWell owner?

Connie: As a business leader, I bring extensive experience in building and developing teams—from starting with just two people to leading a twenty-person department with multiple managers and diverse responsibilities. I’ve collaborated across HR, sales, finance, and marketing, and I’ve been actively involved in budget planning, strategic decision-making, and organizational leadership. I also have hands-on HR experience, including hiring, coaching, and when necessary, releasing employees.

As a manager, I’ve guided team members from individual contributor roles into leadership positions. I’ve trained employees in both technical skills and soft skills, helping them expand their capabilities. I take pride in transforming loosely structured teams into organized, process-driven groups by introducing tools and practices that improve efficiency and results.

My leadership style is authentic, empathetic, and collaborative. I’m passionate about helping people reach their potential, and I actively look for ways to support growth in others. I’m also highly driven and solution-oriented—I believe that with creativity and persistence, anything is possible.

These skills and traits, combined with my passion for serving others, will help me succeed as a HomeWell owner by building a strong, compassionate team and delivering exceptional care to the community.

Q: What would you like your agency to become known for among your clients, caregivers and community?

Connie: I would like my agency to be known as a trusted source of compassionate, dependable care.

For our clients, I want every interaction to reflect genuine compassion, empathy, and reliability. They should feel confident that our caregivers are not only skilled but also authentic in their care and dependable in their support.

For our caregivers, I want to create a family-like atmosphere where collaboration, recognition, and open communication are at the heart of our culture. I want them to feel valued, heard, and supported so they can thrive both professionally and personally.

For our community, I want our agency to be recognized as a valuable and trusted resource—a partner who embodies caring, reliability, and involvement. We will be known for our commitment to enhancing quality of life and for bringing compassionate care to those who need it most.
